Your business plan defines your business, including where it is today and where it's going.  It's a living document that requires periodic review and updates.  For a startup business, those updates may be every few months, while a mature business may only require a review every few years.

There are multiple business plan templates available.  At a minimum, all business plans should include:

• Business definition, including an introduction, objective, mission, key differentiators, history, and product/services offered
• Action plan, including a marketing plan, competitive edge, sales strategy, and sales growth forecast
• Finances and financial projections, including current state, sustainability, risk assessment, and projections
